What is a Motor Shaft Coupling and How Does It Work?
A motor shaft coupling is a mechanical device used to connect the shaft of an electric motor to the shaft of another rotating component, such as a pump, gearbox, or fan. The primary function of a motor shaft coupling is to transmit rotational power from the motor to the connected equipment, enabling the machinery to perform its intended function. It acts as a bridge between the motor and the driven shaft, ensuring a reliable and efficient transfer of mechanical energy.
Working Principle: Motor shaft couplings typically consist of two flanges or hubs, one attached to the motor shaft and the other to the driven shaft. These hubs are connected by an element, which can be rigid or flexible depending on the type of coupling.
